Statement on animal testing

Dr. Hauschka skin care products and cosmetics are manufactured by WALA Heilmittel GmbH. Since 1935 this company has been working with natural substances and thus has longstanding experience in this area as well as with practical nature conservation through the use of biodynamic cultivation methods. Since the inception of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care in 1967 we have always attached particular importance to the responsible development and manufacture of our products in a way that causes as little harm to nature as possible. And this is still the case today.

Of course this also means that, since 1967, no Dr. Hauschka Skin Care product has been tested on animals – either by us or by anyone else on our behalf.

Although Dr. Hauschka Skin Care has never used animal testing, the new EU Regulation on cosmetic products makes a major advance in protecting animals across the entire cosmetics industry: since 11 March 2009, animal testing on cosmetic products and their raw materials has been fundamentally prohibited under the provisions of the Regulation on cosmetic products. As these are legally binding prohibitions, all cosmetic manufacturers in the EU must comply with them.

Since as far back as 01 January 1998, our suppliers have had to certify that the raw materials they provide for our use are not tested on animals. This date corresponds to the date established for BDIH-certified natural cosmetics.

Dr. Hauschka natural cosmetics are produced using tried-and-tested natural raw materials of the highest quality, which are often also used in the food industry. Sufficient skin compatibility and effectiveness evidence exists for the various plant extracts, oils and waxes. Furthermore, all of these have be successfully used in the cosmetics and/or food industries for decades. It was not necessary for us to conduct any additional animal testing to ensure the safety of our recipes.

Instead, during their development, new Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products are extensively tested on volunteers selected from amongst the company's employees. In addition, before a new skin care product goes on the market we have dermatological tests performed on human volunteers by independent institutes. These tests confirm the good skin compatibility of our products.

As a manufacturer of high-quality certified natural cosmetics, WALA Heilmittel GmbH regards itself as having certain ethical responsibilities. In the context of our biodynamic cultivation of medicinal plants and the certified organic farming practised on our Demeter farm we are committed to an ethical, sustainable and responsible approach to animals and the entire ecosystem in which we live.
